New Products

It took a while, but summer finaly did come this year – although today (its Thursday as I write) is distinctly fallish. But people are coming in to buy products for their late-blooming vegetable gardens and things are quite busy here at Mirador. But we did want to let you know about some new products that we have recently stocked.

USA-Made Stainless Steel Cookware
We are very pleased to announce that, after looking for 10+ years, we have finally found American-made stainless steel cookware. We are carrying the American Kitchen line by Regal Ware. Made in Wisconsin, this cookware is less expensive than most of the cookware we've looked at that is made in China, has the tri-ply bottom for good heat conduction (tri-ply is two layers of stainless steel sandwiching an aluminum core), and is beautiful to look at and hold. In addition, they use no plastic or styrofoam in their packaging or shipping (a real novelty) and have a real commitment to environmental values. Visit their website to check out their products and for more information on the company. We also have a 12" PFOA-free (PFOA is the stuff that really pollutes the air when manufactured and hurts you if it smokes on your stove) non-stick stainless steel with aluminum core frying pan for those that want a good non-stick pan. 8" and 10" pans are forthcoming.

Canning!
Canning season is in full swing and, as always (since 1999!), Mirador has a full selection of canning supplies. This year we have two smaller canning kettles that have been quite populer (one is based on a 16-quart stock pot, so is great for making soups also). Also, jars, canning tools, fermenting crocks and jars, pickling spices, low-sugar pectin, dehydrators, books, and our knowledgeable staff to help with your questions.

Coyuchi - Organic Cotton Sheets - New Colors!
We have received a shipment of Coyuchi Sateen sheets in two new colors, Brick Red and Cerulean. Also available in Sateen are Ivory, White, Light and Mid Gray. In early September, we'll be getting some new colors in Percale: Ochre (Mustard), Green Tea, Dusty Rose, and Gray, and those will join the Ivory and White we already carry. All the new colors are luscious and there is something for every color scheme. If you're in the market for a Duvet Cover, Coyuchi is introducing many new fabrics and colors in their Duvets & Shams that we can order in for for you. We love the fact that Coyuchi bedding is organic, beautiful and made with care.

New Water Products
We now have the New Wave Enviro Barrier Eco water pitcher/filter that removes chlorine and heavy metals from water. This is a less expensive way to get filtered water than the New Wave Enviro 10-stage filter. It also remove more substances from water and the cartridges last twice as long as the leading pitcher filter does. More information is available here.

We also have the Hydros BPA-free filtering water bottle. This is great for traveling, as you can filter the local tap water to remove chlorine and chloramines (it doesn't remove heavy metals or industrial chemicals) instead of lugging large bottles from home. More information is available here.

MyPLANet Weekly Planner
Already on the lookout for a planner for next year? Come to Mirador for your MyPLANet weekly planner and personal pathfinder. Created by our own Lisa Kummer, found behind the counter here Friday - Monday. This is our first planner for next year, only $17.95. Check her out on facebook or coloryourpath.com.

Rebootle Recycled Wine Bottle Glassware
Rebootle creates one of a kind, handmade, casual glassware for the eco-conscious consumer made from reclaimed wine bottles. They are both functional and beautiful, as well as dishwasher safe. We are now carrying some of their glassware as well as soy candles in a reclaimed-bottle holder.

Rebootle is located in the wine country and their real purpose is working to get a sanitation program for used wine bottles so that they can be refilled. As they work on that amazing mission, they are turning some bottles into glassware. Check them out!

Meat Eaters Guide to Climate Change
The Environmental Working Group has partnered with an environmental analysis firm to assess the greenhouse gas emissions associated with various types of meat, fish, dairy, and vegetables. The results can help you shape your diet to reduce your greenhouse gas emissions. Read about it here.
